Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) is a global organization that battles poverty with the care and dedication of volunteers. VSO volunteers meet with local partners to develop health facilities, education services, and earning opportunities. Because people are at the center of everything they do, VSO fights to give voices to those living in poverty.

The Challenge

VSO is focused on ensuring that the majority of funds go to poverty reduction programs worldwide. When it realized how much was spent on workspace leases, VSO knew it had to make a change. At the end of its lease, VSO leadership decided to downsize and move to a smaller office space.

“We knew we had to implement a proper hot desking program,” said Amaraghosha Carter, Head of International Information Technology for VSO. “We needed a way to reduce the number of desks we had, bringing our employee to desk ratio closer to 2:1.”

VSO had previously used informal desk sharing, but it was nothing compared to the new workspace plan. In the past, hoteling had been easy because there were often extra desks available. With a new plan for a smaller workspace and fewer desks, VSO needed to ensure employees had adequate space to work.

The Solution
